Interest in non-traditional relationships, particularly three-way relationships, is growing across the U.S., according to a recent survey conducted by dating app 3Fun. The study, which polled 3,673 users, found that 69% of respondents have become more interested in threesomes and throuples in recent years, reflecting a shift in dating culture and increased social acceptance of open relationships.
The findings indicate that younger age groups are leading this trend, with 37% of respondents identifying people aged 25-34 as the most active in seeking threesomes, followed closely by those aged 35-44 at 32%. Additionally, singles (41%) and couples (40%) show nearly equal interest, challenging assumptions that threesomes are primarily sought by single individuals.
Online dating plays a key role in this shift, with 77% of respondents stating they prefer dating apps to find partners, compared to just 15% who rely on in-person connections. However, challenges remain – 36% of participants reported difficulty in finding compatible partners, while 30% struggled with navigating dating apps effectively.
Geographically, major cities are driving this trend, with New York City ranking as the top hotspot for polyamorous and threesome dating. Other cities showing high activity include Los Angeles, Houston, and Chicago, while Las Vegas stands out with the highest percentage of couples seeking partners. Texas has also emerged as a regional hub, with three cities – Houston, Dallas, and San Antonio – making the top 10.
