The team behind Down, the well-known dating app, has launched a new AI-driven tool, Dapper, designed to enhance users’ online presence with customized profile photos and professional headshots. Designed for both professional and personal use, Dapper provides an alternative to traditional photoshoots or manual editing by generating polished images through artificial intelligence.
Dapper requires users to upload seven photos or more to the platform, which its AI system then uses to produce a variety of images suited to different purposes. These range from professional headshots for LinkedIn to casual photos for dating apps like Tinder or Bumble, giving users a number of ways to present themselves without needing to specifically craft unique photos for each platform.
The app reflects a growing trend in leveraging AI to enhance digital self-presentation, particularly in areas where first impressions are key, such as online dating and job searches. To address ethical concerns, all images generated by Dapper are watermarked as AI-created.
Colin Hodge, Founder and President of Dapper, explained the app’s purpose as an extension of the team’s experience with Down – making it easier for people to connect, in this context through the highly specific nature of photos and how important they are for things like job interviews and finding dates.
Currently, the app is only available on iOS, but may roll out to other platforms in the future. Given that the team are still likely working on future improvements for Down, it’s possible that similar technology will be added to the platform directly – or, if not, that the two apps will be designed to work alongside one another.
