Let’s get started!
Meet Divine Intervention Founder Susan Semeniw
After an extensive corporate career in sales and marketing and a fulfilling journey into motherhood, Susan Semeniw found herself ready for a change.
As she explained in an interview with Global Love Report, she sought out the advice of her friends as to what she was good at.
“Dealing with people, networking and giving sound advice continuously came up. I started doing research in the areas of both recruiting and dating/matchmaking. It took my brain a while to transition and embrace this as a full-time legitimate career.”
Semeniw ended up launching her matchmaking service, Divine Intervention, in 2006.
It’s based in Vancouver and Calgary, and the firm has expanded its operations to Toronto as well.
Divine Intervention specializes in serving single professionals, like executives, entrepreneurs, and artists, typically between 30 and 70 years old. Semeniw has also broadened her service to accommodate clients from the LGBTQ+ community.
Susan Semeniw’s Matchmaking Philosophy
This Vancouver matchmaker says the “reward of changing someone’s life for the better” is what motivates her.
Semeniw’s matchmaking philosophy is rooted in honesty and transparency. She strives to improve her clients’ dating skills by providing knowledge about dating etiquette, body language, etc.
And while she’s devoted to helping clients find the right match, she maintains realistic expectations when it comes to the fact that the process often requires patience and time. As she candidly shared in an interview with Monte Cristo Magazine,
“Matchmakers can’t invent humans.”
She also believes each client must play an active role in achieving their romantic goals, explaining,
“I set them on the right track, but they have to put in the work to get their desired result.”
And when it comes to finding your matches, Semeniw and the Divine Intervention team expand their reach by collaborating with other matchmakers.
In an interview with Global Love Report, she explained that such partnerships enable access to more singles, which she says is a valuable resource.
Or as she puts it,
“In order to compete more effectively, collaboration gives us access overall to more pre-qualified singles and this is needed to give our offline industry more critical mass.”
What To Expect If You Sign Up
The matchmaking process begins by filling out an online form, followed by an initial phone interview. If that goes well then you’ll be meeting for a one-on-one interview with a matchmaker.
During these initial steps, you’ll gain insight into the nitty-gritty of the matchmaking process, their service offerings, and costs.
The goal of this phase is to thoroughly understand your personality, expectations, and the type of partner you’re seeking. Semeniw highlights the significance of closely working with clients so they don’t allow strict requirements to create roadblocks in the process.
As Semeniw puts it,
“People often come in thinking they can custom order a person. That’s not how love works. It’s very important to educate and manage client expectations.”
She encourages clients to get to know someone on a deeper level, moving past appearance-based judgments. As she explained in an interview with Dating News,
“Even with so many options out there, you need to connect in person. Chemistry happens face to face and often the package you thought you were looking for is not who you fall in love with. Humans are energy. We need to look beyond the photo and superficiality.”
Semeniw also shared in an interview with Monte Cristo that flexibility in personal preferences and expectations is another point she makes to singles. She promotes self-reflection and emphasizes that a good matchmaker is one who isn’t afraid to “challenge you on what you’re looking for.“
And as she told Distinctive Women Magazine, matchmaking isn’t just about instinct, discretion, and networking. It boils down to one thing:
“If people aren’t relationship-ready, then nothing else matters.”
Divine Intervention customizes its service packages to match each client’s unique needs and criteria. If you decide to hire Semeniw as your personal matchmaker, you’ll sign the contract and remit payment (more on cost coming up!).
You’ll be matched with other paying clients, singles from their internal database, or candidates discovered through scouting or via a partner matchmaker’s network.
Divine Intervention places an emphasis on confidentiality and as a result, their team arranges and sets up first dates. They keep personal details about you, such as your last name, private.
Depending on your package specifics, you might have the chance to work with the agency’s relationship partners. They coordinate with a team of image consultants, personal trainers, therapists, and astrologers.
In addition to matchmaking, Divine Intervention also offers relationship counseling and group coaching.
How Much Does Divine Intervention Matchmaking Cost?
Matchmaking packages range from $1,500 to over $15,000.
The contract duration varies depending on the level of service you want, but typically spans anywhere from 3 months to 1 year.
Curious how that price range compares to other Vancouver and Calgary matchmakers? Here are 2 other price points for services you may also want to consider…
Enamour offers elite matchmaking from within an exclusive, invitation-only database. The team also uses recruiting technology and an extensive network of scouts to pinpoint highly compatible singles for you to meet.

Like Enamour, VIDA Select also offers elite matchmaking to Calgary and Vancouver singles. VIDA’s modern approach allows the team to leverage the largest source of eligible singles there is.
And when it comes to contracts, clients take a “pay as you go” approach. Packages are offered on a month-to-month basis, rather than making a long-term commitment.
Basic matchmaking service starts at only $1095 per month, with Premium packages beginning at just $1695 per month. Elite services start at just $2595 per month.
