Tinder has announced a new collaboration with Rutgers, the ‘expertise centre for sexuality’, to increase awareness around the importance of mutual consent in the Netherlands.
The educational campaign will be available to all Tinder users in-app from 25 June to 31 December 2024, with well-known Dutch ambassadors set to join the conversation around the topic of consent.
The campaign aims to equip young people with practical tips around how to start conversations about consent ahead of the introduction of a new Sexual Offences Act in the Netherlands.
Research commissioned by Rutgers ahead of the campaign, in collaboration with Ipsos I&O, found that Dutch young adults feel safer with sexual contact when the other person regularly asks for consent.
Willy van Berlo, sexual violence expert at Rutgers: “The idea that you contractually record in advance with consent what exactly you want during sex is refuted by this research. By checking with each other several times what you both like, verbally and/or non-verbally, you can always go back to your previous agreement and you can be sure that you both like it.”
This is the second time Tinder and Rutgers have collaborated on an awareness campaign. The first collaboration was the successful launch of the “Healthy Dating Guides” , which offered singles practical tips for creating healthy relationships online and in real life, in partnership with the NO MORE FOUNDATION .
