Bumble Inc has announced a new AI-powered tool to help detect spam, scam, and fake profiles. Within the first two months of its adoption, Bumble saw user reports of spam, scam, and fake accounts drop by 45%.
To mark Safer Internet Day, Bumble Inc has announced its Deception Detector™, an AI tool that assesses the authenticity of profiles on Bumble Inc’s platforms (Bumble, Badoo, Fruitz, etc).
The new safety model blocked 95% of flagged profiles automatically, according to the latest testing. The system works alongside human teams to protect users and create a safe space for connection. As time progresses, the machine learning-based system will be continuously retrained to take into account the new trends of bad actors, Global Dating Insights was told.
Research shows that fake profiles and the risk of scams were the top concerns among online daters, especially women. For example, 46% of women said they’d experienced feelings of anxiety over the authenticity of their online matches on dating apps, according to a survey by Badoo.
“In recent years, the online landscape has evolved significantly and we see a growing concern about authenticity”, said Lidiane Jones, CEO at Bumble Inc.
“Bumble Inc. was founded with the aim to build equitable relationships and empower women to make the first move, and Deception Detector™ is our latest innovation as part of our ongoing commitment to our community to help ensure that connections made on our apps are genuine”, she added.
“With a dedicated focus on women’s experience online, we recognize that in the AI era, trust is more paramount than ever. We are being thoughtful about how to best use new models to reduce the anxiety of making connections and support our community, with AI standing as a main area of focus”, shared the newly-appointed CEO.
This new safety tool is the latest in a series of AI-related innovations from Bumble Inc. These include the lewd image identifying Private Detector, and the AI-generated icebreakers on Bumble For Friends.
