LinkedIn has announced that more than 100 million members worldwide have completed its free identity-verification process – a significant benchmark in its efforts to foster authenticity and reduce fake profiles on the platform.
Originally launched in 2023, LinkedIn’s verification scheme allows users to confirm personal identity or workplace credentials via third-party providers, such as CLEAR or Persona. Once verified, members receive a badge visibly indicating their verified status.
The latest milestone comes as part of LinkedIn’s goal to make verifications accessible to every professional on the network. According to the company, ID-verified profiles now see, on average, up to 60 % more profile views and 50 % more engagement on posts. For organisations maintaining company or corporate pages, the impact is even more pronounced: verified Pages reportedly receive 10.9× more views and 7.7× more followers.
To extend this trust model beyond its own user base, LinkedIn has introduced a self-serve verification API. This allows external platforms and apps – such as communication tools like Zoom – to integrate LinkedIn’s verified identity signals into their services. The company argues this will help build a more reliable digital ecosystem where identity credibility follows users across multiple platforms.
Regional expansion remains underway. The platform previously announced large-scale rollout of verification to markets including India, where users can validate their identity via government-issued IDs or phone numbers.
