Better in Person has officially launched, positioning itself as a no-nonsense alternative to mainstream platforms like Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble. The new app, which has already gone live on the app store, tries to remove gamification from the dating world.
Marketed as a way to arrange real dates instead of entering a money-driven “infinite swiping game”, Better In Person aims to eliminate the guesswork of conventional dating apps by leveraging an AI-assisted date planning system. This AI uses a number of tools (including Yelp integration) to plan date locations, activities, and availability based on each user.
The app is built around eliminating catfishers, “f***boys”, narcissists, and other dishonest members. Users can report bad actors, such as catfishers and unreliable matches, who are then labeled accordingly with profile warnings like “flake”. These warnings are visible to all other users on the platform. Profiles also require video clips of the person running them before they’ll be approved, presenting another hurdle to catfishers and bot profiles.
Users who receive date requests are held to a mandated follow-through rate, ensuring that more matches result in actual meetups. The app requires all users to arrange dates proactively, potentially booting any users who don’t respond to match requests.
To amplify its launch, Better in Person is rolling out an aggressive ad campaign in the coming weekend, encouraging users to “report every f**kboy you know.” The campaign includes billboards, seaplanes, and even paid “f***boys” carrying signboards in the streets.
