Three-Month Trend Dominates Indian Online Dating, Survey Finds

A new survey from Indian dating app QuackQuack sheds light on how long singles in the country typically take to move from casual chatting to defining a committed relationship. Based on responses from nearly 9,600 users across Tier 1, 2, and 3 cities, the study offers insights into the evolving dynamics of online dating in India, particularly among the 18–35 age group.

The data reveals that for many Indian daters, three months marks a key turning point. About 34% of users aged 27 to 35 reported that by the end of the third month, they typically either commit to a relationship or part ways. As QuackQuack CEO Ravi Mittal noted, “The timeline of defining a relationship varies from person to person. While three months remains a popular timeline for most users, ensuring both partners are on the same page is more important than the timing.”

The pressure to define relationships sooner is often influenced by external factors. Social expectations, particularly around marriage, are prompting some individuals to commit faster than they might otherwise choose. According to the survey, three in five women and two in six men cited societal pressure as a reason for speeding up relationship milestones.

Age also plays a significant role. Gen Z daters, especially those between 18 and 22, tend to take a more relaxed approach, sometimes taking up to six months to commit. In contrast, millennials over 28 are more likely to stick to the three-month mark.

Interestingly, a small but notable 9% of users said they defined their relationship within just two weeks of matching, pointing to the occasional instant connection. For those daters, quick commitments don’t necessarily mean short-lived relationships.
