Tinder is celebrating a significant milestone as Thailand becomes the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. As Thailand marks this historic moment, Tinder has partnered with Naruemit Pride and other public and private organizations to honor the passage of the Marriage Equality Bill, aligning with Thailand’s Marriage Equality Day on January 23.
Tinder has made a significant impact within Thailand itself. A recent survey revealed that 100% of LGBTQIA+ users met someone they connected with on the app, and half of them formed meaningful relationships. This track record has made Tinder a vital launchpad for many relationships, giving users a way to meet one another in a comfortable and controlled way.
Tinder’s Chief Marketing Officer, Melissa Hobley, emphasized the platform’s ongoing commitment to inclusivity, noting that today’s Gen Z users are at the forefront of reshaping modern dating with a focus on openness and mutual respect. The dating platform, known for its inclusivity and diversity, has reported a notable increase in LGBTQIA+ matches, with 30% of all Tinder connections now being between LGBTQIA+ users, reflecting a 66% growth year on year.
Tinder has long supported the LGBTQIA+ community, providing over 50 gender identities and nine sexual orientations for users to choose from. With nearly 7 billion LGBTQIA+ matches made globally, Tinder continues to provide a platform where users can connect freely, often using dating apps as a safe space to meet romantic partners before coming out to friends or family.
Tinder’s commitment to inclusivity extends beyond online connections, as the company continues to support LGBTQIA+ initiatives in Thailand through collaborations with local organizations and events. This has included working with the APCOM foundation to adjust the terminology used in their app, local AirBnB partnerships, and a host of other efforts.
