Tinder in Germany is partnering with a femcare company to release a dating consent guide. The guide explains key terms related to consent and shares advice on the best ways to ask for permission, don’t give permission, and more.
Working with The Female Company, a German provider of feminine hygiene products, Tinder has made a new guide accessible on the dating app, on social media, and on the website of the partnered organisation.
Tinder shares that since the invention of the swipe and the mutual ‘like’, it has been working to ensure consent “is a must and not an option”.
A survey conducted by the dating app demonstrates the value of education about consent. 57% of respondents shared that they want more public education about consent, with 33% saying they have never been asked for consent before some form of physical intimacy.
The guide offers practical advice about consent in relationships. For example, when it comes to the first kiss, an appropriate way to ask permission could be saying “I’ve been thinking about it all night, can I kiss you?”.
It then shares suggestions for how the other person could respond, either saying “I have thought about it all night too, yes!” or “No I don’t feel that right now”. Psychologist & dating expert Pia Kabitzsch also shares her insights in the guide, outlining 5 key tips to consent & romance.
Another feature of the guide is it’s break down some of the key terms related to consent, for example ‘Aftercare’, which refers to “After intimacy, an important reality check to see how your partner is really feeling”, with a suggestion of how to go about having this conversation.
