Tinder is gearing up for dating Sunday, the first Sunday of the year and one of the busiest days of the year for online dating platforms. Falling on January 5th this year, Dating Sunday marks a time when swiping, liking, and messaging reach unparalleled levels of activity, often requiring extra attention and moderation to ensure nothing goes wrong.
According to Tinder’s Year in Swipe™ report, 2025 is about clarity, spontaneity, and connection, with trends like “Loud Looking,” encouraging singles to boldly state their intentions, and “Kiss-met,” celebrating spontaneous romantic moments. On a typical Dating Sunday, swipe activity typically surges by 20%, likes increase by 15%, and users send 20% more messages, all leading to a 10% rise in matches compared to the yearly average.
The platform has been offering tips to users to increase their chance of matches at the very start of 2025, such as overhauling profiles or making use of the app’s new features to improve profile bios. As an event itself, however, Dating Sunday is just as likely to impact Tinder as it will the app’s users.
It’s not clear exactly what the plans for Dating Sunday actually are – in terms of special events or features – but Tinder’s awareness of the upcoming surge of activity places the app in the prime position to take advantage of it.
