Sam Yagan, former CEO of Match Group; and Phil Schwarz, former CMO at Tinder, have invested in gaming platform GameTree. The platform, which helps gamers to find teammates, has successfully raised $1.7 million in its latest seeding round.
GameTree looks to foster gaming communities that are inclusive and non-toxic, helping members to find like-minded peoples. Over the past 3 years, the platform has created over 2 million gamer connections, Tech.eu reports.
In its latest investment round, the platform attracted support from a number of VCs and angels. Investors include Sam Yagan, a co-founder in OkCupid and the CEO of Match Group between 2012 and 2016.
Other angel investors include Phil Schwarz, former CMO at Tinder; Coddy Johnson, former CEO of Activision-Blizzard; and Victor Yushchenko, former President of Ukraine, shares Tech.eu.
The platform’s desire to create non-toxic gaming communities is particularly important as many gamers, especially women, face harassment and hate speech while gaming online, research has found.
“At GameTree, our vision is to create a gaming community that transcends boundaries, fosters meaningful connections, and puts an end to toxicity”, said Co-Founder Dana Sydorenko.
“Having witnessed the power of teamwork and camaraderie as a paramedic and CEO, I believe every gamer deserves a safe and welcoming environment, too”, she added.
