Dating app Hulah has announced that background checks are now live on the platform. The new feature will verify that users have no history of sexual abuse, harassment, or threats, creating a safer environment for connections.
Confirmed on LinkedIn by Hulah’s Founder & CEO, Heather Hopkins, Hulah has taken another step forward in its mission to help women date “better guys”.
From its launch, Hulah has been focused on creating a safe environment for women to date. Male users had to be endorsed by a woman in order to join the dating platform, meaning that they are certified as ‘good guys’, and will face real-life accountability for any bad behaviour.
However, male users (who can’t find a woman to endorse them, for example) can now access the app instantly thanks to a new background check system.
Working with background check providers Checkr, Hopkins explained that in less than a minute users can complete the check and ensure they don’t have a history of bad behaviour in relation to intimate relationships.
“Right now, 33% of R*pes and Sexual Assaults happen to women by men from dating apps. We are grateful to be the most trusted dating app by women and appreciate the men who do their part to make us feel more comfortable”, shared Hopkins.
Hulah launched its beta version in March 2023, and reached over 100,000 users by August that year. Heather Hopkins was featured in Global Dating Insights’ Trust & Safety Special Report 2023, which can be downloaded here.
