The founder of Heyoosh, Nissan Bahar, has shared the dating app’s intentions to shake up the industry and its “very unhealthy dating culture”.
Speaking to news outlet, ISRAEL21c, Nissan, who cofounded Heyoosh with software expert Maor Gil, explained that the pairs chief concern in the development of the app is to make the digital dating environment safer
“These apps have created a very unhealthy dating culture,” explains Nissan. “At first it was exciting, but later on these apps created severe burnout among the users.”
Heyoosh encourages users to get to know the personality of potential partners, rather than basing their dating decisions on looks alone. Over time, the AI-based matchmaking system picks up on the preferences of users to generate better potential partner options.
Speaking about his own opinion that dating apps have created a legion of people unable to sustain long-term relationships, due to believing a new partner is just a swipe away, Nissan said:
“People have completely lost the plot on how to behave in dating. We want people to think about each match before they even meet the person.”
Privacy is a chief concern for Heyoosh founders, especially data collection. “Our goal was to create a user experience that is ethically clean. We built a zero knowledge system, we don’t even know who our users are,” says the founder.
“All personal messages [on Heyoosh] are encrypted, and no effort is made to keep the users active for the sake of it,” he says.
The Heyoosh founder comes from a tech background that previously saw him establish Keepod, an information security solution for banks and telecom businesses. Heyoosh is founded under the Keepod umbrella and majority funded by the parent company, with an entirely remote staff base.
