The Older I Get, The Harder It Feels to Let Someone In
This is a question I’ve been asking myself a lot lately
especially now that it’s been a year since my last long-term relationship ended.
I think what scares me most about falling in love again is how much of your life becomes entangled with someone else’s.
At this stage in my 20s
I’m in that strange in-between where I’ve figured out more than I knew in my early 20s,
but nothing feels fully set in stone yet either.
It’s that place where you finally start to understand who you are
what you like, what you don’t, what you’ll never settle for again.
But the more you figure yourself out,
the scarier it becomes to let someone else in.
Because when you’ve worked this hard to become who you are,
the thought of losing even a small part of that can feel terrifying.
But lately, I’ve been trying to remind myself of something
maybe love isn’t about giving away pieces of yourself.
Maybe it’s about sharing them.
Maybe being ready to fall in love again
isn’t something you suddenly feel.
Maybe it’s something you choose.
So until then, I guess I’ll keep asking.
