A study of over 2,000 sexually active UK adults found that the weather has an impact on their intimacy. 21% of respondents said that they are more open to exploring new sexual experiences in the summer.
The study was conducted by Lovehoney, the global leader in sexual happiness. It also found that 17% of Brits admitted that they’re more open to romantic adventures during the Summer months.
On the other hand, only 5% of respondents said that they are more open to new sexual encounters in the winter.
Clinical Sexologist Ness Cooper explains that “During warmer weather we can experience a rise in vitamin D, which can increase our libido and make us more receptive to sexual pleasure with a higher chance of experiencing orgasms. It’s possible that this increase could make us more likely to want to engage in more pleasure-focused sex, such as casual sex”.
Men are slightly more likely to be open to new sexual and romantic encounters in the summer months, the research found.
London, Brighton and Manchester are the three cities most open to new sexual experiences in the summer. Plymouth, Norwich, and Sheffield were the cities that are least likely to be open to these encounters.
Those with the star sign Taurus were found to be the most likely to have sex this summer, with 27% of this group saying they feel more open to new sexual experiences in the warmer climate.
