Bumble is sharpening its focus on forming real-world friendships with the upcoming launch of a redesigned Bumble For Friends (BFF) app. During its Q2 2025 earnings call, CEO Whitney Wolfe Herd framed this update as “one of our most exciting long‑term growth opportunities,” aimed at meeting rising demand for authentic connections among Gen Z and younger millennials.
Bumble is restructuring to streamline operations and restore momentum. The company has cut more than $100 million in costs through operational efficiencies and workforce reductions affecting about 30% of its team. These measures reflect a broader effort to prioritize quality over sheer scale and prepare for a “return to growth,” Herd noted.
The revamped BFF app will build on features from Geneva, a community-focused social platform acquired by Bumble in 2024 for around $17 million. The new iteration merges one-on-one friend matching, physical meet-up events, and community spaces – all bolstered by Bumble’s safety protocols – to support meaningful offline social connections..
This move comes against the backdrop of financial challenges for Bumble. In Q2 2025, the company reported a 7.6% drop in revenue despite its shares recovering somewhat, decreasing from $268.6 million to $248.2 million year-over-year, along with an 8.7% decline in paying users. Despite this, Bumble is positioning itself uniquely in the social app landscape by blending romantic and platonic connection tools – an approach Wolfe Herd believes could resonate across generations.
