Dating in the Age of Coronavirus

    [ad_1]

Dating in the age of the pandemic is considerably more difficult than before it started. In the past, you might have met someone at a bar, grocery shopping, or through social engagements. Now, things look considerably different. How are people managing their dating life during the coronavirus?

The Impact of COVID-19 on Dating

With restrictions set on social gatherings, masks up in public, and public places closing, the ability to meet people organically has been stunted. Going on actual dates can feel nearly impossible. New couples are facing very limited date options, not to mention limited physical intimacy for those who do not live in the same household. Dating during COVID-19 can be a risky endeavor.

How to Date Safely In 2021

    Online Dating App

Online dating has existed for many years now, and thankfully so! Now during the pandemic, online dating apps have become the primary option for people to meet other singles in their area. Online dating apps give individuals a chance to put themselves out there and view others in their area that they might be a good match with.

    Virtual Dates

While many traditional dates are not an option right now, virtual dates can be a great way to get to know someone during the pandemic. If you meet someone online, setting up a virtual dinner could be a great way to replicate a “regular date.” Each of you cooks your own food, or you both order dinner from the same place, and then you eat and chat over a video call. Thanks to video chat platforms, virtual dates are very accessible. Other fun options include watch parties (where you can watch the same thing and chat in real-time) and online games.

    Safety Precautions

If you are planning on meeting the person you are dating in person, be safe and smart. Following basic precautions will keep you and your partner safe while the pandemic dating. Quarantining and getting tested before seeing each other, social distancing, and wearing masks are great options. This will limit your chances of spreading the virus to one another.

    Make A Plan Together

Lastly, if you and the person you are dating want to keep seeing each other, make a plan together. There is no clear end to the pandemic at the moment. Discuss how you will continue to connect and spend time together safely during the coronavirus. You may wish to “form a quarantine pod” or add your partner to a pod you already have established with friends or family. If other people are involved, be sure to include them in your decision-making process.

If the stresses of the pandemic are overwhelming you, a therapist can help. Click here to find one in your area.
