Feeld has released its second State of Dating report, exploring how digital platforms can foster safer intimacy, particularly for marginalized communities. Like the original report, published in 2024 as a partnership with the Kinsey Institute, the new State of Dating report examines the critical role online dating plays in ensuring safety, building trust, and encouraging meaningful connections

The study, conducted with Dr. Apryl Williams of the University of Michigan, surveyed over 6,000 respondents from the U.S., U.K., and the Netherlands, alongside insights from nearly 3,000 Feeld members. The report underscores that safety remains a top priority for marginalized daters. Queer individuals are 80% more likely than heterosexual users to prefer online connections due to safety concerns.

Additionally, 83% of trans, nonbinary, and genderqueer respondents favor online dating over offline encounters for the same reason. A significant 66% of trans and gender-nonconforming users actively seek connections outside their immediate geographic area to avoid unsafe situations.

Digital intimacy also plays a role in fostering trust and communication. About 34% of Feeld members believe online interactions help establish a sense of safety before meeting in person. Furthermore, 40% of respondents noted that digital platforms enable more thoughtful conversations, reducing potential hostility and misunderstandings. Another 40% stated they feel safer and more in control when connecting online first.

Privacy and control features are crucial for safer online dating experiences. According to the report, 58% of Feeld users prioritize having control over their personal information, while 53% consider blocking and reporting tools essential for maintaining a sense of security.

Surprisingly, the full report infographics also state that queer users who weren’t Feeld members were 120% more likely to prefer online interactions compared to their cis counterparts – suggesting that Feeld has managed to provide the right conditions to make in-person connections more approachable and comfortable.
