Fluttr CEO Kaushik Banerjee has revealed Indian actress Huma Qureshi has invested in the language dating app.
The co-founder shared the news on LinkedIn last week that the rapidly growing start-up has received an undisclosed amount from the high-profile star, 37, ahead of its revamped product launch.
Qureshi is well-known for her roles in primarily Hindi-language films and has won several awards, including the Indian prestigious FilmFare OTT award for her role in Maharani.
Fluttr was founded in 2021 by Mr Banerjee and his son Anirban and boasted to be the country’s first multilingual dating app allowing users to interact in English, Hindi, and Bengali.
According to Your Story, the app is aiming to support 6 Indian languages (Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Hindi and Bengali).
In the LinkedIn post, Mr Banerjee stated the funding comes at a pivotal moment in the app’s journey and described Qureshi to “represent the true potential of the Indian girl”.
Since its launch, Fluttr has been a prominent dating app in India after it was among Forbes India’s top 100 startups last year.
“Huma has always taken up bold, feminist roles that strongly represent the true potential of the Indian girl. So, having someone like her place her trust in our vision means a lot to us.
“Of course, onboarding a celebrity investor comes with the love and support of their fans, which is a huge plus. But more than anything, we are most excited about working with Huma to build a dating app that’s truly for India, by India,” Mr Banerjee said.
