A recent study by QuackQuack, a popular dating app in India, reveals that 60% of surveyed daters aged 20-26 feel compelled to find a match before the year ends, often motivated by loneliness or the desire to showcase a holiday companion to family and friends. As the holiday season arrives, the pressure to pair up before festivities begin – and rush into “Christmas Matches” – has become increasingly prevalent.
The study, conducted among 9,000 users from diverse professional and educational backgrounds, highlights a mix of cautious optimism and emotional strategies. Ravi Mittal, CEO of QuackQuack, acknowledges that while some of these matches are likely going to fall apart due to them being a rushed decision, others will blossom into genuine connections.
For 21% of male daters from metropolitan areas, rushed matches have led to meaningful relationships. Meanwhile, 19% of users over 24 are opting to take intentional breaks from matching. Additionally, 25% of women aged 22-26 are setting digital boundaries to preserve emotional well-being, something that could matter a lot considering that many users are actively trying to find a relationship that may not last past the Christmas season.
While there isn’t much time left in the year, dating platforms may see a spike in activity as users try to get matches ahead of Christmas – whether it’s due to genuine loneliness or an ulterior motive like impressing family in the short-term.
