HER, the leading dating app designed for LGBTQ+ women and non-binary individuals, is experiencing a significant uptick in popularity as daters shift away from mainstream platforms in favor of more community-focused options. With over 13 million users globally, HER’s recent user survey highlights a growing trend: sapphic dating is on the rise, fueled by a broader cultural moment.
According to the survey, 75.2% of respondents now prefer identity and community-driven dating apps like HER over mainstream alternatives. This shift is particularly notable among Gen Z and millennial users. The data shows that 49% of Gen Z and 53% of millennial users are decreasing their activity on mainstream apps such as Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge.
The survey also reveals that 28% of users were inspired to explore sapphic dating due to the current cultural climate, with 37.5% stating they had never dated sapphics before joining HER. Additionally, 53% of respondents indicated they have been using HER more frequently in recent months.
One key factor driving this shift is dissatisfaction with mainstream dating apps, particularly among users frustrated with interactions involving cis men. The lack of genuine connections was also cited as a major reason for leaving these platforms. While this data only comes from one app’s research, it could highlight a gradual shift in how dating apps are being used as a whole.
