As the U.S. looks ahead to Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, the eternal debate about canned versus homemade cranberry sauce has arisen once again. OkCupid has contributed to the discussion, sharing insights about how cranberry sauce preferences can affect dating success.
Ahead of the holiday season, OkCupid and Ocean Spray are working together to explore the discussion around #TeamCanned versus #TeamHomemade. More than half of Americans say that the condiment is a must-have for the annual holiday meal.
But what’s this got to do with dating? 28% of cranberry fans consider it a “red flag” if someone doesn’t like their preference for cranberry sauce, Ocean Spray shared.
To explore this even further, OkCupid conducted a study using its in-app questionnaires to reveal more:
- Analysis found that daters who prefer homemade cranberry sauce tend to get 18% more likes and 18% more matches on the dating app. They also have around 12% more conversations.
- Out of Gen Z, Millennials, and Gen X, the younger generation are the most likely to prefer homemade cranberry sauce, OkCupid found.
- Singles probably associate Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners with family members asking annoying questions about relationships.
- Almost 4 in 10 men and women would rather be asked, “are you still single?” 10 times than go without cranberry sauce for Thanksgiving.
