Tinder ‘Promises To Inject More Spontaneity Into Online Dating’ With New AI Profile Picture Feature Launch

Tinder has announced a new AI-powered photo selection feature is expected to be released this summer to help users find their profile picture quicker.

The dating app revealed the anticipated arrival of the new ‘Photo Selector’ feature this week (July 17), which will help users choose their profile picture easier from a collection of photos gathered from their devices.

Users are expected to take a selfie of themselves for facial recognition before AI technology will collect a series of pictures for them to choose from.

The latest component will be available in the USA this month before it is released internationally later this summer.

Tinder said the innovation promises to inject more spontaneity into the online dating experience and help reduce the time daters spend choosing a picture.

This comes following a recent Online Opinium survey showed most singles (85%) emphasised the importance of their dating app profiles accurately reflecting their true selves.

Key findings also highlighted over half of the respondents (52%) also admitted struggling to select an appropriate profile image. Moreover, a substantial 68% expressed interest in utilising an AI feature designed to assist in choosing the best photos for their profiles.

Tinder also used internal data from Tinder profiles last June (June 21) to report men who include more than one face photo in their profiles increase their likelihood of matching with women by 71%.

Faye Iosotaluno, CEO of Tinder, said: “We’re proud to be the first dating app to roll out an AI tool that can make the profile-building experience significantly easier — an area we know is one of the hardest parts of dating.

“As the category leader, we’re pushing ourselves to define the industry’s best use cases for meaningful consumer AI integrations.

“As demonstrated by our Photo Selector feature, we’re developing AI tech to assist you in making decisions, not to make them for you.

“Our commitment to our users is clear and equally applies to our view of AI: at Tinder, we develop innovative technologies to create a safer space for people to make authentic connections.”
